hand marbled one of a kind pillow - No. 04

Back in the 19th and 20th century, the inside covers of books were decorated with wildly colorful papers. Different patterns were all used by book binders to ease the transition of a reader’s eyes from the cover of the book.

The earliest known examples of marbling date back to Japan in the 12th century, where a technique known as suminagashi, meaning “floating ink”. In Turkey, marbled papers were used to help prevent document forgery.

Swarm has created a series of pillows inspired by the techniques utilised centuries ago. Each pillow consists of 3 to 6 individual dips on a heavy cotton canvas creating individual patterns and colours. They are then selected to compliment and coordinate together to create a one of a kind pillow.
